Ebbey's First Porcupine Encounter A porcupine leans over a snowy rock.
Allex Michael: Luckily, Ebbey stays a safe distance from any animal that stands their ground, including porcupines. She and her canine friend Grizzly, encountered a very small porcupine while off leash. It was dark and the young rodent looked like a piece of trash from a distance. Both dogs began approaching to within a few inches. I immediately ran up towards the back of the porcupine, trying to keep the dogs away. After three threatening yells, Ebbey came back to me submissively. I held onto her harness while continuing to yell at Grizzly. Grizzly's owner was also yelling from behind, and the naughty boy kept circling. Holding Ebbey away from the porcupine, I got her leash clipped on and tried to stay between Grizzly and the porcupine. Ebbey seemed relieved to be back on lead. She may have thought only a running critter is worth all this yelling. Finally Grizzly was captured. When the young porcupine began to hurry up the hill, Ebbey did start to go after it, but with somewhat less zeal than usual. We have seen several porcupines from a distance, but this was Ebbey's first up close encounter. Fortunately, it was a young porcupine and not a large confident adult.
Playing the search dog, Ebbey has a leading role in the eerie action thriller Search Dog's Raven. Her character is paramount, because the key to unlocking the film's unique twist turns out to be the 'Search Dog's...Raven.
