Ebbey the Canine Actor: Ebbey Photos About Allergies Ebbey enjoys lounging and napping by the window on top of this bed. When first adopted, Ebbey soon began vomiting up to seven or more times per day and several different vets were unable to diagnose the cause. Having allergies herself, and when the vomiting was later followed by severe itching, owner Allex Michael eventually suspected allergies. Close supervision and large t–shirts with sewn on crotch straps helped prevent Ebbey from chewing and scratching through her skin until the cause of her allergies was discovered.
As canine allergy blood and skin tests are not always accurate, Allex put the dog on a home made elimination diet to first discover if food was the culprit. Basically only one protein and one carbohydrate, that the dog hopefully has never eaten, are fed daily for up to several months. Since Ebbey was found starving in a garbage dump, it was impossible to know what foods she had never eaten.
There are hypoallergenic foods you can buy from a vet, where the protein is altered so the dog doesn't react to it. The problem is all those other ingredients. Unfortunately, Ebbey is allergic to these hypoallergenic vet foods as well.
It took almost six months of wearing her doggie t–shirts and a great deal of exercise to keep Ebbey from damaging herself via chewing and scratching. Luckily it was food allergies, and once Ebbey was eating foods that agreed with her, her scratching and itching gradually lessened.
