As with humans, canines with allergies have stressed immune systems. So proper diet and adequate rest can really help the dog's overall health and prevent other illnesses. Adequate nutrition can help prevent disease, or at least lessen it's symptoms. Some owners prefer home made food vs processed dog food. Some prefer a raw diet. As most of us don't have the time to make home made food, try and make an informed decision when you buy dog food. In other words, don't buy the cheapest crap on the shelf.
As far as adequate rest, you may be thinking the dog can sleep whenever it wants. This may or may not be true. Many households are very busy. Though children, other pets and visitors can be a happy time in your dog's life, make sure that the same children, pets and visitors are also not constantly interrupting your dog's sleep. Have an off limits quiet kennel or place where your dog can go and sleep when they need to.
