Discovering The Cause

Having a dog with down ears, the only time I see Ebbey with up ears is when she's asleep on the floor or running around like a wild puppy.

Allex Michael: Once it's established that your dog has allergies, you then must discover the cause. One of the quickest ways is to find a vet who does canine allergy blood testing or allergy skin testing. Several dog owners I spoke with, did not have great success with these expensive tests.

I had skin tests for human allergies and was found to be acutely allergic to 98 of the 100 scratches, including dogs. As a number of the acute allergies didn't seem to bother me in real life, I can't say the skin testing worked for me either. For the acute allergies that were accurately diagnosed by the skin tests, proper nutrition eventually helped reduce or alleviate most of the allergies...including my allergy to dogs. So I decided not to pursue canine blood or skin tests unless Ebbey's home made elimination diet was unsuccessful. Obviously, there is a much greater commitment level to doing an elimination diet than just getting meds from the vet.
